The plugin works as intended. Would love to see option to display number of characters in post.

Plugin contains huge performance issue if the sites has more then +100 posts. On line 68 of post-word-count.php there is a function that calls on init and load all posts from the database and calculating the wordcount for each post. Perfect, it does what it promises, shows the word count of each post in the post panel.

It shows wrong count, not usable
