Automatic installation

Automatic installation is the easiest option as WordPress handles the file transfers itself and you don’t even need to leave your web browser. To do an automatic install, log in to your WordPress admin panel, navigate to the Plugins menu and click Add New.

In the search field type “WP Event Manager” and click Search Plugins. Once you’ve found the plugin you can view details about it such as the the point release, rating and description. Most importantly of course, you can install it by clicking Install Now.

Manual installation

The manual installation method involves downloading the plugin and uploading it to your web server via your favorite FTP application.

  • Download the plugin file to your computer and unzip it

  • Using an FTP program, or your hosting control panel, upload the unzipped plugin folder to your WordPress installation’s wp-content/plugins/ directory.

  • Activate the plugin from the Plugins menu within the WordPress admin.

Getting started

Once installed:

  1. Create a page called “events” and inside place the [events] shortcode. This will list your events.

  2. Create a page called “submit event” and inside place the [submit_event_form] shortcode if you want front-end submissions.

  3. Create a page called “event dashboard” and inside place the [event_dashboard] shortcode for logged in users to manage their listings.

Note when using shortcodes, if the content looks blown up/spaced out/poorly styled, edit your page and above the visual editor click on the ‘text’ tab. Then remove any ‘pre’ or ‘code’ tags wrapping your shortcode.

How can I be notified of new events via email?

If you wish to be notified of new postings on your site you can use a plugin such as Post Status Notifier.

It is so hard to find a good, simple event feed. In the past, I have just made my client's blogs into their event feed (which is not ideal), or I've tried to make do with ugly, awkward event feeds. I am super happy with what I was able to do with this plugin and with very little time put into the CSS. So - This plugin does have more features that my client needs, but it is very easy to pare down the CSS to make it clean. If you want a super streamlined set of events for one single client, here is the CSS I used to clean out all of the extra stuff. Of course, I am using colors for my client (a farm museum), but you can easily poke though and swap things out to make it your own. I annotated so you can see what each css item does. (NOTE: I formatted the event Location field and I am now using it to display a short excerpt on the event feed page....) Anyway - I highly recommend this plugin. I wish I found it sooner!! /* styling for events and event calendar */ /* remove bottom row of info from single event page */ .wpem-single-event-page .wpem-single-event-footer .wpem-organizer-profile-wrapper { display:none; } /* top right background color on single event page */ .wpem-single-event-page .wpem-single-event-wrapper .wpem-single-event-header-top { background: #ffffff; } .wpem-single-event-page .wpem-single-event-wrapper .wpem-single-event-body .wpem-single-event-body-sidebar { display:none; } /* remove items from top right box to clean up single event page */ .wpem-main .wpem-heading-text { display:none; } .wpem-to-date { display:none; } .wpem-event-organizer-name { display:none; } /* day styling on single event page */ .wpem-single-event-page .wpem-single-event-wrapper .wpem-single-event-header-top .wpem-single-event-short-info .wpem-event-date .wpem-event-date-type .wpem-from-date .wpem-date { font-size: 43px; line-height: 41px; letter-spacing: 1.7px; color: #de9817; } /* month styling on single event page */ .wpem-single-event-page .wpem-single-event-wrapper .wpem-single-event-header-top .wpem-single-event-short-info .wpem-event-date .wpem-event-date-type .wpem-from-date .wpem-month { font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: 1.9px; font-weight: 400; line-height: 21px; color: #de9817; } /* single event page text size */ .wpem-main { font-size: 17px; line-height: 29px; color: #33322e; } /* single event page image adjustment */ .wpem-single-event-page .wpem-single-event-wrapper .wpem-single-event-header-top .wpem-event-single-image-wrapper .wpem-event-single-image img { /* width: 900px; */ height: auto; } /* main event page remove elements */ .wpem-single-event-widget .wpem-event-infomation .wpem-event-details .wpem-event-ticket-type { display: none; } .wpem-single-event-widget .wpem-event-infomation .wpem-event-details .wpem-event-date-time::before { display: none; } .wpem-single-event-widget .wpem-event-infomation .wpem-event-details .wpem-event-location::before { display: none; } /* main event page format name of event text*/ .wpem-single-event-widget .wpem-event-infomation .wpem-event-details .wpem-event-title .wpem-heading-text { font-size: 31px; line-height: 33px; letter-spacing: 1.3px !important; text-align: center; } .wpem-single-event-widget .wpem-event-infomation .wpem-event-details .wpem-event-date-time { padding-right: 7px; font-size: 17px; line-height: 21px; letter-spacing: 1.7px !important; text-transform: uppercase !important; text-align: center; } /* main event page - format location info and use this field as an excerpt */ .wpem-single-event-widget .wpem-event-infomation .wpem-event-details .wpem-event-location { padding-right: 13px; font-size: 15px; line-height: 29px; text-align: center; font-style: italic; margin-bottom: 11px; } /* increase spacing between items on main event page */ .wpem-single-event-widget { margin-bottom: 57px; } .panel-grid-cell .widget-title { display: none; }
I have tried all of the other event management plugins and this is the only one that actually does exactly what I want without having to spend hours and hours figuring out how to write codes and stylesheets! It's super easy to use and looks great right out of the box! I am so glad I found this plugin! I will definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good events management plugin!!! I love that you can submit events from both the backend and frontend! Thanks for the awesome plugin!!!
Looks like a nice plugin, but has very basic functionality. To get decent functionality, you have to buy add-ons. For example to connect the calendar to WooCommerce, you'll need to spend $39 on the registrations add-on, $39 on the WooCommerce add-on, and $39 on the Attendee Information add-on. Also, this doesn't seem to be compatible with the Divi theme, used by millions of people.
I've been playing with this plugin for a few weeks and it's a joy to work with and packed full of great features even in the free version. The code is very well structured and allows for easy modifications through templates so you can always stay updated even after customising. I've tried almost all the other events managers and this one is the easiest to work with and 'tweak'. It looks great too, highly recommended. Worthy of 5 stars
This plugin is actually an event listing plugin that you can use and is trustworthy. The support is stellar even for the free version. Highly recommend this. Tried several other event plugins from the WP repo and this one just took the cake, delievered to the party and good times were had by all. Thanks!
