A BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight, 25.0 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30.0 or above falls into the obese category. These thresholds follow the World Health Organization classification for adults aged 20 and over.

How is BMI calculated?

BMI is your weight divided by the square of your height. In metric units, divide your weight in kilograms by your height in metres squared (kg/m²). In US units, multiply the result of pounds divided by inches squared by 703. For example, a person 1.78 m tall weighing 72.57 kg has a BMI of about 22.9.

Is BMI accurate for athletes and muscular people?

Not always. BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, so highly trained athletes and very muscular people often register a high BMI despite having low body fat. BMI is a useful quick screen for the general population, but for individuals it should be combined with other measures such as body fat percentage and a medical evaluation.

Does a healthy BMI differ for men and women?

The numeric BMI categories are the same for adult men and women. However, at the same BMI, women generally carry a higher body fat percentage than men, and older adults carry more body fat than younger people. That is why BMI is best read as a general indicator rather than a precise measure of body composition.

What is the difference between BMI and the Ponderal Index?

Both estimate body fatness from height and weight, but the Ponderal Index cubes height instead of squaring it. Because BMI does not scale perfectly with height, the Ponderal Index is often more reliable for people who are exceptionally tall or short, where BMI can overstate or understate body fat.

1.1.0

New shortcode attributes:
title
,
theme
(light, dark, auto),
accent
and
max_width

Responsive layout: form and results wrap into one column on narrow pages, wide tables scroll inside their own box

The frame now follows the calculator's height when it changes or the window is resized

Fixed the missing heading icon

The plugin's JavaScript and CSS are now shipped unminified

The WordPress-side script and styles load only on pages that use the shortcode

1.0.1

Removed leftover files of earlier plugin versions

Tested up to WordPress 7.1

1.0.0

Initial release of BMI Calculator

["GET
