親サイトが「http://●●●.com」で、子サイトが「http://▲▲▲.●●●.com」ですか？
子サイト用のサブドメインをどのように設定したのでしょうか？

「手順2： ワイルドカードサブドメインの設定」が正しく出来ていないのではと思います。
上記の設定を行えないサーバもありますが、さくらのレンタルサーバ(スタンダード等の共有プラン)の場合は、サブドメインを割り当てるフォルダに、親サイトと同じフォルダを指定すれば動作すると思います。

DNS設定は、VALUE-DOMAINで
a * 123.456.789.000 （IPアドレス）
サーバーは、海外サーバーです。
サブドメインは
cPanelからSubdomainsで設定しました。
Document Rootは /public_html/サブドメイン
Redirectionとありましたので
Redirects を開いてみると
Add Redirect:
type Permanent(301)orTemporary(302)
http://(www.)?**All Public Domains**/
redirects to→
www. redirection: Only redirect with www. Redirect with or without www. Do Not Redirect www.
□ Wild Card Redirect
とありますが、よくわからないのでそのままの状態です。
現状は、上記の設定状態です。
ネットワークの作成のCPanelの解説では次のようになっていますので、Document Rootに「/public_html/サブドメイン」ではなくて「/public_html」を指定するとどうなるでしょうか？(親サイトのDocument Rootが「/public_html」の場合です。)

Make a sub-domain named “*” (wildcard) at your CPanel (*.example.com). Make sure to point this at the same folder location where your wp-config.php file is located.
